As there are rules in golf so God gave rules for life on earth. Both sets of rules are set up to give guidance in certain applications & conditions. Both sets of rules have a common theme of achieving & maintaining an integrity within us. In both scenarios we are our own constant overseers but so is God for He sees all. But there's more! They both offer a means of fairness & balance in different conditions we may be in at any given time.
The first rule or commandment God gave was, "do not eat the fruit of this tree" which had a corresponding consequence of, "or you shall surely die." Different philosophies may come to mind there, but the fact is, we failed at that time so hence came "sin" introduced by satan with a whisper.
A couple of thousand years later, God gave ten other rules. The first 3 of those 10 rules focuses on a relationship with God. The next 7 have to do with relationship with each other. Now if we keep the first 3, the next 7 would not be required in my opinion.
Golf rules by the USGA revolve around principals, objectives, situations & etiquette. Many of these rules may not have impact on play if players understand simple physics & mindsets such as not rushing a shot, understanding the shot at hand to be made or not pushing one's limits. There are also the physicality's like good alignment, swing tempo, timing, and other correct mechanics among swing considerations.
Golf is a very personal game criteria subject to each individual players mindset and ability as can be said of life.
The 10 Commandments were set in place the same for all mankind by God the Father for each individual in recognition of sinful nature introduced by satan. God required a sacrifice of a blood atonement for sin. To extend grace & mercy to mankind who were failing to abide by His rules, God gave his Son as THE perfect and final sacrifice. In golf outings among friends we have mulligans, rolls in the fairway, a foot wedge or many other friendly stroke & face-saving allowances. However, in sanctioned contest, the USGA written rules come with provision to allow continued play that may come with a penalty of stroke and/or distance. By rule of God, we have separation from Him which is called "sin." However, we have the promise through the Son of redemption without penalty. The one and only thing we must do to gain that redemption is to repent of our sin when we accept Jesus as our savior.
Remember, golf is just a game. Jesus is eternal life.

A basic point of making a good golf shot has to do with alignment. It begins with the direction a ball may travel from a start point to a desired end location. This may be an area in the fairway, on the green or the hole. The closer to the hole the smaller the target area. This direction is our "target line".

A basic point of making a good golf shot has to do with alignment. It begins with the direction a ball may travel from a start point to a desired end location. This may be an area in the fairway, on the green or the hole. The closer to the hole the smaller the target area. This direction is our "target line".
First, we need to know our target and then imagine a line from a ball starting location to that target. With our target line in mind and considering making a straight shot, at address to the golf ball, our body should be parallel to the target line and the club face perpendicular (90°) to the target line. Making sure our hands are placed on the club gripping area in the position desired and our shoulders in line with our feet, we are now set to draw the clubhead steadily back in preparation of a smooth forward swing with enough clubhead speed to send the ball to the desired landing spot. All of this is part of positioning ourselves for best chances of a good.
Each & every day, do you position yourself for the likelihood of having a good day? Or do you run out the house first thing hoping you have a pretty good chance at a good day? What could be awaiting us once we jump into our car heading off in a hurry to a presumed location? There are too many things out of our control even in the best prepared attempt for a good target landing. Our mental attitude, however, is really the only thing we have control of. A "hit & hope" attitude can leave the door open for further frustration the rest of the round or day. In golf, we have distances normally within eyesight. A little more manageable than in day-to-day life. In life we are to manage moment by moment many of the times.
Having a good & correct alignment in golf is not going to have effect on your daily life other than practicing the mindset. However, having good alignment with God in daily living can have great impact not just on our golf game but in life each day.
Take time first thing in the morning to set up your alignment for each day. See yourself in line with Jesus before heading out. Align with Him! Even if at first if you're not sure about your alignment, over time you'll see better results. It may feel foreign at first, but stay with it. Stay determined. Stay consistent. Alignment will help keep us out of traps, hazards, ditches & the woods.
In golf, you'll get targets dialed in. In life, He will get you dialed in. Jesus is our only target so let's keep our eyes on Him.
In aligning with Jesus, some key verses that emphasize this are to seek God's Kingdom first (Matthew 6:33), renewing your mind to God's will (Romans 12:2), trusting Him in all ways (Proverbs 3:5-6), and following His example by taking His yoke (Matthew 11:28-30).
Align with His love and see transformation by faith, through faith's power from the faithfulness of God.

Off the tee box, in the fairway, around the green and when putting, whomever is furthest from the hole takes first shot. This order of etiquette in golf is to hopefully keep pace without confusion.
Scripture gives us a clear lineage of hierarchy beginning with knowledge of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In Matthew 6:33 Jesus states "seek ye first His (the Father) Kingdom..." meaning the Kingdom is the goal. the path is thru the Son, Jesus. The Holy Spirit is here to guide.
God chose great "players" along the way. Players who were not perfect. Players such as Adam, Noah, Moses, Abraham, Issac, Joseph, the 12 Disciples... Our hope is to just be on the same course when our tee time is called. Our hope for such is in Him. To play our best game we are to do more than "include" the Father, Son & Holy Spirit but rather ask that they include us as we call on them. They will!
Matthew 7:7-8 (NIV)
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

How many times have we heard the phrase, "the devil is in the details!"? In golf this phrase can ring very true it seems but let's look at that to see a truth.

If a golf ball goes offline, a hook or a slice, the main cause is a closed or open clubface. But what about the swing path, your grip or even body alignment or is the swing timing off? It may be any combination of any of those detail issues. Something we did squeed the clubface. Many novice golfers are trying to make a shot they're not prepared to make because it hasn't been practiced or maybe being a little aggressive. Many times, we're just not aware of the little things it takes to make a specific type shot on demand or how to make a small adjustment to correct a flaw.
How do we do that in our daily lives? It can be wise to seek council from a trusted person (of the same sex as you) in handling certain situations or questions of faith. Scripture is always great to go to, but another person may see or uncover something you have not noticed or were not aware of. One of the foremost noted Bible verses is Proverbs 27:17 (NIV)
17 As iron sharpens iron,
so, one person sharpens another.

Most players who play non-professional golf, and even pros, can have problem with consistent play. Most players who play non-professional golf, and even pros, can have problem with consistent play. Most often for the novice player it may be due to lack of practice but many times there are distractions or bad decisions. When bad shots become the only consistency in their game, discouragement sets in. Another reason can be trying to play like another player maybe a little better than you or taking bad advice or not hitting a club suited to that particular shot.
In Genesis, Lot (nephew to Abraham) & family made an array of bad decisions after not making a good land decision in Genesis 13. Lot did not seek God but rather desired to have better than Abraham. Later, Lot offered his two daughters to the deviate men of Sodom in place of the angels sent by God. Next, the wife of Lot turned to see the destruction of Sodom, turning her into a pillar of salt. Later, the daughters of Lot got him drunk, slept with him ending with both girls becoming pregnant. Abraham made a bad choice sleeping with Hagar the servant girl of Sarah which may be cause of continued issues still today.
God is most happy to help us make good choices & decisions. We should seek and focus on Him in our life choices. He'll even walk with us in golf and all other areas that may seem unimportant at any given time.
Read Genesis 8 & 9, Matthew 6 & 7, Psalm 8 & Proverbs 2:6-15.

Most all golf courses are set up with one point in mind, enjoyment. This may not be obvious to every player on every course played but after all, golf is a game. Most all golf courses are set up with one point in mind, enjoyment. This may not be obvious to every player on every course played but after all, golf is a game. "Challenge" is certainly a design consideration. Design considerations for a course have effect on a player's decisions on each and every hole, from tee to green. Respect the course & the course will respect you. NOT! It seems like the mood of the course changes day by day. Neither the course designer nor builder know us to any measure unless they develop a course specifically for you. How about a course that changes to fit our play each time we play? Wouldn't that be special! Or would it? I dare say that we need a challenge to stir our appreciation and our love of the game.
Over the years the game has grown in popularity. Most all things associated with the game has enhanced it to be appealing but the challenge needs to be there. That one fabulous shot that brings us back again. A few things to help us play are printed images of hole layout at tee boxes, scorecard course layouts and/or play books giving information of each hole.
Psalm 22 by King David gives us in part the framework for appreciation & love of life from and with our glorious and faithful God. Our designer and creator of our lives and everything around us. In this Psalm, David sees he has gone off course, realizing the cause and effect of his error(s). He recalls who his God is & has been.
Proverbs 5 gives us an example of "wisdom" in staying on course as was designed by the Creator.
Both are a great read! Give effort and look them up in our "play book" for life.

Many times, in our play, we may receive advice whether asked for or not. Some of it is good knowledge. Sometimes it's a distraction, maybe on purpose to draw us off our game. It's really hard to tell sometimes. In any case, it's up to us to receive or to reject. Requested instruction can be of the same venue.

It's really hard to tell sometimes. In any case, it's up to us to receive or to reject. Requested instruction can be of the same venue.
The Book of Exodus is full of this between God and Moses, Moses and Pharoah as well as the people affected. Disastrous events took place in those days, but it was all advice or instruction received or rejected.
Psalm 25 reads in great depth as to King David of deliverance and forgiveness.
In our golf game sometimes, we seek information in regard to our end result that is based on our current condition or situation. We seek out others and their advice or perhaps misread what lies ahead us. Play within our skill set first and secondly play with confidence and a little optimism.
In our life we can do the same trusting in our Savior and not ourselves as perhaps James and John in Matthew 20:20-28. it begins, "20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him.
21 What is it you want? he asked."
We recognize Christ but ask for what we want to get not what He want needs to happen. Here, the mother places her sons right by Him to be seen as great but not knowing the cost.
We will receive our just reward when we do what we should do.
